Chicken farmers benefit from China’s pig fever outbreak 

Now that bird flu and other pathogens in chickens have temporarily subsided, the highly infectious African Swine Fever is circulating in China. The outbreak began in wild boars and has spread to domestic herds. Thus far, the disease has not jumped to humans.

After more than a dozen outbreaks since the country’s first case was reported in early August, Beijing has slaughtered around 40,000 hogs and banned transport of live hogs from and through infected areas.
